MedCo (now part of Express Scripts) is the largest prescription benefits provider in the country, though few are aware of them. That made our challenge even greater as we were asked to launch their first online OTC pharmacy. Our insights about the MedCo consumer lead us to create a highly personalized, customized, and relevant shopping experience that let consumers shop by disease state instead of product alone – an industry first. A robust loyalty program delivered relevant offers based on shopping history and personal preferences. And a mobile app providing invaluable utilities like a drug interaction checker allowed MedCo another way to connect to the customer and offer instant rebates on OTC products.

MEDCO MOBILE APP

The Medco mobile app helps users manage the medications they take on an on-going basis and find lower cost drug alternatives covered under their prescription benefit plan with Medco. The “My Rx Choices®” tool helps users find alternative, lower-cost drugs to the ones they are currently taking, and displays the annual savings if the patient were to switch to the alternative. The app displays a digital version of a patient’s Medco Prescription benefit card, which can come in handy when filling a prescription at the retail Pharmacy. There is also a drug interaction tracker so consumers can see if OTC drugs work with their prescription meds.
